Where did God come from?
“Art Thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God?” Habakkuk 1.12
Everlasting קרם (6924-qedem) Before or preceding.
A simple answer:
The Hebrew word Qedem means that of which is before or that which precedes. Whether you believe in Creation or the Big Bang, it is agreed that our universe had a beginning. God is before or preceding that beginning. It is also believed that our universe is a “bubble” of sorts, expanding outwardly at the speed of light. God is from or beyond the borders of our universe. God created the “bubble” of our known universe of time, space and matter and therefore He is before or precedes our universe of time, space and matter.
The Illusion of Time:
It maybe that we are governed by an illusion of time. According to research done at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, states: “the truth about time, is that it doesn’t exist.” Ferenc Krausz has measured time down to the 10-43 of a second. Beyond that, he says, time disappears. Seth Lloyd (quantum mechanical engineer at MIT) was asked, “What is time?” He answered, “Beats me.” He explained, “Clocks do not measure time. Time is defined to be by what clocks measure.” According to physicist Carlo Rovelli, “It may be that the best way to think about quantum reality is to give up the notion of time—that the fundamental description of the universe must be timeless.” (Discover magazine: June 2007, In No Time, page 78).
One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3.8.
The finite mind struggles to understand the concept of a timeless reality.
The finite mind struggles to understand the place beyond our known universe.
The finite mind struggles to understand the everlasting.
The finite mind struggles to understand He who is infinite.
God exists outside our reality and understanding of what is beyond our universe. God, in order to “get down on our level”, reveals himself through ideas and concepts we can understand. On Mount Sinai God revealed himself in a tangible manner. God pursuing man, came down to meet man on his level. God has established that a relationship with him is what is obtainable and what is important. A relationship with God is what we are to pursue. Because of our finite minds, we are not capable of understanding an infinite God. However, we are created, designed, and programed for RELATIONSHIP. We cannot understand God, but we can know Him. The just shall live by faith. Habakkuk 4.2
True Christianity has never been about Do’s and Don’ts, rules, laws, or the keeping of commandments. True Christianity is that of a relationship. True Christianity is that of a “romance”. True Christianity is defined in the Song of Solomon.
God pursues each one of us individually and His desire is that we pursue Him in return that we might know Him─ intimately. In John 17, Jesus prayed, “That they (the Believers) all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:”.
